iMovie

iMovie '09 is a great way to import, organize, and edit video. You can also add pictures to iMovie. My video included film that I used from Ashley's camera, my computer's camera, and pictures that people put on facebook(Beware!). You can also organize your film by displaying them together in a file. All you have to do is drag your pics/video and put add them to the right side of the screen where the empty boxes appear. Then save them underneath the desired title. Some of the editing features include stabilizing shaky video and trimming edits between video clips. This is a great way to make your video look more professional!

With this program you can also add background music to your movie. I used music that I had downloaded from itunes. In addition, iMovie can enhance your movie by adding transition between videos and adding text onto your clip(s). There are many other features that can add creativity to your video. You should check them out. It's fun!!

Once you are done creating your video you can share it with other people. With iMovie '09 you can publish your movies to Your MobileMe Gallery or YouTube very easily. I was having a hard time publishing my iMovie video. My iMovie is on the older 6.0.3 version. I am not sure if I can publish mine as easily as iMovie '09. The way that I was able to download my iMovie was to change it to the Quick Time Player format, and then download it onto my blog.

I enjoyed making this movie with Ashley. We had a blast! I also felt as if it brought out a lot of our creativity!! We are now wanting to be music video directors.....and teachers!!!

Web 2.0 Tools

Web 2.0 is an interactive tool that can be a helpful for teachers. This program allows the teacher to collaborate, and to design applications for his/her classroom.

FlipMyPhotos.com is a free application which allows on-line editing of images and photos. Some of the features included are rotating, cropping, resizing, adjusting brightness, and removing red eyes from the photo/image. There is no software to download so you can access this tool from any computer. Unfortunately, this is only a temporary storage device(24 hrs.). So it would be wise to edit your photo/image, and then immediately download it to your computer or send it to your email. This would be a great tool if you are creating a classroom slideshow and you wanted to edit the pictures at home before you showed them to your class.

Dabbleboard is a white board that can be used with sketches from scratch, pre-made drawings from contributers, or uploaded images. With Dabbleboard you can add lines, text, arrows, and many other tools to your image. An additional feature of Dabbleboard is the fact that you can sketch with one or more people in real-time. If you have a webcam or a microphone you can also chat while you are working. This would be a great resource for an art teacher because he/she can show how to draw certain objects/items in real-time. The students can watch the teacher as she is creating the project.

The ODE website was a helpful tool because it allowed me to become more familiarized with state standards and resources that I will need in order to create a successful Work Sample.

The guidelines for assessing the needs for high end learners was very informative. Implementing
acceleration, complexity, depth, challenge, and creativity in their curriculum is important. This insures their
enhancement in the content area.

2. How will this resource help me identify state standards that I must address?

The ODE newspaper discusses the December 2008 State Board of Education adoption of Educational Technology
Standards to replace the existing Instructional Technology Common Curriculum Goals. They identify different
ways to enhance learning through technology. Technology in the classroom should be used to innovate creative
ideas using current technology. In addition, technology should be used to collaborate and access information.

I found 2 applications that I can use with my blog account that really interested me:

1. The first one is Windows Live Writer. Windows Live Writer is a desktop blogging application that allows you to write and edit posts from your desktop. This software makes it extremely easy to insert photos and videos to your post. It has also made me more productive due to the fact that I can work on new posts even when there is no Internet connection available (lostintechnology.com).

2. The second application is Twhirl.Twhirl is a Twitter and FriendFeed desktop client. Twhirl makes it easy to update from your desktop and to keep up with all of your friends and readers. Recently, twhirl added the ability to cross post to Pownce and Jaiku. This makes it even easier to stay in touch with everyone (lostintechnology.com).

Thanks for visiting my blog! My name is Mahssa and I am currently starting a new chapter of my life. Last year I decided to go back to school to get my Master's in teaching. After looking at several schools I decided to earn my degree at Willamette University. It took me a while to get here (about 30 years), but I am glad that I am finally focused on my dream on becoming an art teacher to middle school students.

Before I entered WU I was real unsure of what I wanted to do for a living. All I wanted from my career was to be one of those people who said " I enjoy waking-up every morning to go to work". I had many jobs in the past that almost made it impossible to wake-up in the morning at all. I knew that those jobs were not the jobs for me!

I decided to focus more on my passion for art and see where that took me. I painted all the time for my friends and family. I even received my Bachelor's degree in Art, but for some reason I never acquired an art related career. Maybe because I thought it was unlikely for me to become a respected artist. It's intimidating to express yourself as an artist and to be rejected by critics.

Several years ago I was a substitute teacher and a teacher's aide in Texas. I loved those jobs. In that environment I could be as goofy and creative as I wanted to be. After I thought back about how fun those times were I decided that teaching was the career for me. And I couldn't think of teaching anything that I loved more than art. Art is my passion. It's what gets me up in the morning. Now here I am headed toward that dream at WU. I am excited for this journey that I have just begun.
